Abstract

Tetrameric Pt(II) acetate shows a photoluminescence in solution at lambda (max) = 510 nm and 630 nm which is assigned to a metal-centered fluorescence (tau < 5 ns) and phosphorescence ( <tau> = 1.8 ys), respectively. It is suggested that in the emissive excited state the metal-metal bonds are weakened. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
