Abstract

Different reaction pathways were determined between thermolysis and photolysis reactions of the butterfly complex [{(CpFe)-Fe-BIG(CO)(2)}(2)(,(1:1)-As-4)] (1b). The thermolysis leads to novel arsenic-rich compounds [((CpFe)-Fe-BIG)(2)(,(4:4)-As-4)] (2b), [((CpFe)-Fe-BIG)(3)((3),(4:4:4)-As-6)] (4) and [(CpFe)-Fe-BIG((5)-As-5)] (5), whereas the photolysis of [{(CpFe)-Fe-BIG(CO)(2)}(2)(,(1:1)-E-4)] (1a: E = P; 1b: E = As) exclusively results in the decarbonylation products [((CpFe)-Fe-BIG)(2)(,(4:4)-P-4)] (2a), 2b and [((CpFe)-Fe-BIG)(,(4:1)-As-4)((CpFe)-Fe-BIG(CO)(2))] (3). The E-4 complexes 2a and 2b show unique structural differences in the solid state despite their related compositions.
