Abstract

Aqueous [Os-II(NH3)(5)(N-2)](2+) undergoes a photolysis with UV light (lambda(irr) = 254 nm). The main photoreaction proceeds according to the equation: [Os-II(NH3)(5)(N-2)](2+) + O-2 -> [Os-VI(NH3)(4)N](3+) + NO2- + NH3. The photolysis can thus be viewed as photodismutation of the coordinated N2 ligand yielding N-III (nitride) and N+III (nitrite). This reaction is coupled with an additional redox process: (Os-II + O-2 -> Os-VI + 2O(2)). (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
