Abstract

This article describes the development and application of a uniform content analysis Instrument for child pornographic images In two rounds, 250 images were investigated to validate the "Questionnaire for Assessment of Child Pornography Criteria" this validation was conducted through the calculation of an inter-rater reliability coefficient and the use of a card sorting method Subsequently the questionnaire was applied to 735 child pornographic images from collections seized from eight convicted offenders 39 % of these images formed part of a series Various types of sexual intercourse were present in 65 % of the images 60 % of the victims were female, and 38 % male 32 % of the pictures reproduced different types of fetishes paraphilia and sadomasochistic activity The questionnaire provides the potential to relate picture features to offender characteristics and may help to further our understanding of the dynamics of collecting child pornography
