For minimally invasive operative interventions, all those anaesthetics and anaesthetic procedures that provide optimal working conditions for the surgeon while guaranteeing rapid and complete postoperative recovery of the patient are suitable. For interventions of short duration, propofol, alfentanil, inhalation anaesthetics and muscle relaxants with a medium-long action have more or less clear advantages as compared with barbiturates, etomidate, fentanyl and relaxants with a long action. Regional techniques may also occasionally be considered. In the case of high risk patients, meticulous peri-operative monitoring is of decisive importance.
