This study critically examines the reconciliation process in traffic crimes in Uzbekistan, revealing how systemic inequalities shape justice outcomes. Drawing on a mixed-methods approach - comprising the analysis of 1,249 court cases and in-depth interviews with victims, offenders, and legal professionals - it uncovers the profound influence of economic vulnerability and cultural norms on reconciliation practices. In 85% of pedestrian-related cases, reconciliation was reached through compensation and forgiveness. However, these agreements commonly reflect the limited bargaining power of economically vulnerable victims, who face urgent medical expenses, lack access to health insurance, and experience cultural pressure to forgive. These dynamics distort the ideals of restorative justice, replacing mutual healing with a commodified, asymmetrical process that favors wealthier offenders. The research situates restorative justice within broader socio-economic and cultural contexts, highlighting how material deprivation, infrastructural neglect, and cultural expectations intersect to reinforce unequal access to justice. The study calls for urgent reforms to Uzbekistan's restorative justice framework, including state-funded victim support, standardized compensation guidelines, and procedural protections, to ensure that reconciliation genuinely reflects fairness, voluntariness, and dignity.
