In the fields of allergology and dermatology, numerous registries have been established in recent years which, depending on the research question, can also be used for registry-based studies on healthcare intervention effects. In order to be able to conduct high-quality registry-based studies, methods and structures must be developed that promote collaboration between all those involved. The focus here is to strengthen the evidence base, thereby driving forward improvements in the quality of care and ultimately also strengthening the resilience of the healthcare system. This can be an important foundation for evidence-based healthcare in a learning healthcare system. Registry-based studies on healthcare intervention effects are a good way of generating important new evidence in the context of standard care, depending on the issue in question. The focus should be on those projects that have a major impact on improving care. One obstacle here are the still insufficient possibilities for data link-age and the limited availability of data for a broad research community (open science). Overall, there is a need to improve the general conditions for interventional care-related studies (e.g., register-based randomized controlled trials [rRCTs]) in Germany. Opportunities, perspectives, and challenges of registry-based studies on healthcare intervention effects are presented in the article.
