The present guidelines have been elaborated by representatives from several German professional academic societies (neurology, orthopedics, psychosomatic medicine, psychotherapy, otorhinolaryngology, head, neck and trauma surgery). They are intended to supplement the already existing guidelines of the German Neurological Society with resepct to expert testimony and to standardise the procedure, content and appraisal of persons having suffered neck distorsion ("whiplash injury"). Moreover, they define requirements for the qualification of experts, use of instrumental investigations, and indications for interdisciplinary assessment.
