Abstract

According to the WHO measures YLD and DALY, depressive disorders are the leading cause of burden of disease worldwide. Beside direct costs of care, enormous indirect costs are caused by disablement and permanent incapacity to work Despite their clinical and socio-economic importance, there are huge diagnostic and therapeutic deficits with respect to depressive disorders. In Germany, only 10% of about four million people with depression are adequately treated. Improvement of early recognition and treatment of depressive patients is the main objective of the German awareness program ,,Alliance against depression".
