Abstract

The reaction of caesium and triphenylantimony in liquid ammonia in a molar ratio of 5:1 yields crystals of the ammoniate [Cs-6(PhSb2)(2)] (.) 11NH(3). A low-temperature single crystal X-ray structure analysis of the thermally extremely unstable compound shows it to contain PhSb23- anions, in which the aromatic substituent is attached to one atom of a single-bonded diantimonide dumbbell. Ionic interactions between the anion and the counter cations lead to the formation of two-dimensionally infinite layers, which lie parallel to the crystallographic ab-plane. (c) 2005 Elsevier Ltd.
