Abstract

The complex Os(II)(bipy)(2)(CO3) undergoes a photoredox reaction in acetonitrile/H2O yielding [Os(VI)(bipy)(2)(O)(2)](2+) and formaldehyde. The reactive excited state is suggested to be of the (Os(II) to pi* carbonate) MLCT type. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
