Abstract

The crystals of the copper(II) complex with racemic ethylenediaminedisuccinic acid [Cu(H(2)Edds)] were prepared. The H(2)Edds(2-) ions and the Cu atoms located on a crystallographic axis 2 form an ethylenediamine ring (Cu-N, 2.007(2) angstrom) and two five-membered aminocarboxylate rings (Cu-O, 1.983(1) angstrom) located approximately in the NCuN plane. The carbonyl O atoms of the protonated carboxyl groups of the propionate arms occupy the axial positions at the neighboring Cu atoms (Cu-O, 2.359(2) angstrom); thus, the [Cu(H(2)Edds)] molecular fragments form infinite layers.
