Abstract

Potassium amide-ammonia(1/2), KNH2-2NH(3) (1) was obtained as a side product in the reaction of distilled potassium with dicesium-dodecahydro-closo-dodecaborate Cs2B12H12 in liquid ammonia at -38 degrees C. The compound crystallises in the orthorhombic space group C222(1) with Z = 4, a = 6.8386(7) angstrom, b = 9.9525(10) angstrom, c = 6.5903(6) angstrom and V = 448.54(8) angstrom(3) as column shaped colorless crystals. The compound contains one-dimensional infinite potassium-amide-ammonia-strands parallel to the crystal-lographic c-axis which are interconnected by interstrand N-H---N-hydrogen bonds.
