Abstract

The ion pair [Pt-IV(NH3)(5)Cl]3+S2O82- shows a S2O82- --> [Pt(NH3)(5)Cl](3+) outer-sphere charge transfer (OSCT) absorption at lambda(max) = 267 nm. OSCT excitation leads to the reduction of Pt(IV) by S2O82- to Pt(II) with phi = 3 x 10(-3) at lambda(irr) = 280 nm. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
