Abstract

Diffusion of large single-charge tetramethylammonium, tetrabutylammonium, and tetraphenylphosphonium ions in aqueous solutions has been studied using inelastic cold neutron scattering. The results are explained in terms of the energy of interaction of alkyl chains and phenyl ligands with water molecules. The data obtained in this work are compared with the results from other investigation methods (NMR and electrical conductivity measurements).
