Abstract

While for intercalation compounds of natural smectites 2D long range order of the interlamellar space was never observed, in-plane order can be detected using a homogeneously charged synthetic fluorohectorite as host material. With these intercalates distinct 2D structures for enantiopure and racemic [Ru(bpy)(3)](2+)-interlayers, as previously predicted by atomistic simulations, can now be proven experimentally.
