Cross choking in 13 experienced Judokas (age span 26 - 44 years) induced significant changes of ECG intervals (p less than or equal to 0.05). During choking and in the recovery period after choking shorter intervals were registered, so that choking induces transitory acceleration of heart frequency. The variance of intervalls is enlarged due to the stress reaction. The basal frequency remained stable however. The expected decrease of pulse due to mechanical stimulus of the sinus caroticus was not registered in any case.
