Inappetence, malnutrion and loss of weight are major problems of cancer patients caused by the tumor itself or the different modalities of treatment (surgery, radio-therapy, chemotherapy). Reactive catabolism cannot be managed by the patient himself and a controlled high-calorie nutrion (oral, PEG or parenteral) is necessary. Otherwise a loss of weight will occur as the tumor deprives the patient's body of energy. The patient's quality of life will be decreased by depression and inactivity.
