Abstract

In this paper, expectations and satisfaction of schizophrenic patients in the psychiatric hospital are described in comparison to patients with other psychiatric disorders. Patients suffering from schizophrenia state less satisfaction than patients with effective disorders. Schizophrenic subtypes could not be shown to differ significantly with regard to the level of satisfaction, but patients with hebephrenic schizophrenia tend to be more dissatisfied. Expectations towards psychiatric inpatient core differ substantially between patients with schizophrenia versus other psychiatric diagnosis. Aspects of patients' autonomy like free day planning, participation in treatment decisions, or upholding human rights are much more emphasized by schizophrenic patients, whereas varied treatment procedures, discharge planning, and special psychotherapy seem less important to them. In order to improve the outcome quality of this rather dissatisfied group of patients, these results should be considered when dealing with the patient as well as for the elaboration of treatment strategies.
