Abstract

A Monte Carlo simulation of a solid on solid (SOS) model for surface growth that includes nonlocal effects associated with shading is undertaken. The results are analyzed and compared with those resulting from a nonuniform distribution of particles but with no shading. This leads us to suggest that the effects of shading can best be modelled by a spatial and temporal nonuniform flux deposition term, as opposed to the alternative suggestion that shading could be modeled as a correlated noise term.
