Abstract

A mixture of the syn- and anti-isomers of methyl nitrite was deposited into an argon matrix at 12 K. The anti-isomer was subsequently photolyzed by dye-laser excitation into the red tail of the origin line at 26252 cm(-1). The origin of the remaining syn-isomer is found at 27361 +/- 10 cm(-1), and the first 5 bands are well fitted with an anharmonic oscillator model with v(i) = 1086 +/- 5 cm(-1) and x(e) = 0.0180 +/- 0.0003.
