Abstract

In the reaction of [Ru(bpy)(2)Cl]. 2H(2)O with 2-N-[(S)-1-phenylethyl]pyridineimine (NN*) after metathesis with NH4PF6 the new complex [Ru(bpy)(2)(NN*)](PF6)(2) is formed as a pair of diastereomers with (S)-configuration at the asymmetric carbon atom in the NN*-side chain and either Delta- or Lambda-configuration at the octahedral Ru-atom. The diastereomers differ in their H-1 nmr spectra. Diastereometrically pure Delta-[Ru(bpy)(2)(NN*)](PF6)(2) is obtained by chromatography and characterized by X-ray analysis.
