Abstract

12 lead standard ECGs of 35 healthy male volunteers (age: 19-44 years), recorded from 08.00 a.m. up to 01.00 a.m,, were analysed retrospectively in order to investigate primarily the diurnal changes of ECG interval durations and R wave as well as T wave amplitudes. Friedman ANOVA revealed significant variations for all ECG parameters. Especially T wave amplitudes showed marked alterations with percent changes up to 40%. Transient maxims of median T wave amplitudes and QTc interval duration were found at 12.00 a.m. and 14.00 p.m., respectively R wave amplitudes and PQ duration revealed lower values in the afternoon. Periodicity of 12 hours (T-Wave amplitude) and between 5 and 8 hours (QTc interval, T and R wave) were confirmed by spectral analysis and cosinor model based on population data.
