Abstract

In this paper we will prove new lower bounds for the first eigenvalue of the Dirac operator on two-dimensional Riemannian manifolds diffeomorphic to S-2 With an isometric S-1-action. We show examples, where this new bound improves the known lower bounds and coincides in the limit with the known upper bounds. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
