Abstract

In the German cultural context, it is said "Similars attract" and "Opposites attract". But what is valid for the effectiveness of work groups? Can homogeneity in all dimensions relevant for achievement be an effective factor? Can high heterogeneity improve the group effectiveness or is a composition out of heterogeneity in one and homogeneity in other dimensions of group work (but in what?) productive? The article contains a general view of different aspects in this controversal discussion. Culture specific aspects of heterogeneity in work groups will also be taken into consideration.
