Abstract

The Michael reaction of acrolein 2 with ethyl 2-oxocyclohexanecarboxylate 1 can be catalyzed enantioselectively with a number of optically active transition metal complexes or in situ combinations of transition metal compounds and optically active ligands. The best results up to 47% ee could be obtained with Co(acac)(2) and 1,2-diphenylethylenediamine. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
