Abstract

The electronic spectrum of [Rr(CO)(4)(oxinate)] (oxinate = 8-quinolinato) in CH3CN shows a longest-wavelength absorption at lambda(max) =422 nm which is assigned to an intraligand (IL) transition of the coordinated oxinate. The complex displays a weak green fluorescence and a strong red phosphorescence which originates from the (IL)-I-1 and (IL)-I-3 states, respectively. These emissions appear at r.t. in solution as well as in the solid state. While the fluorescence is not affected by oxygen the phosphorescence is completely quenched in the presence of air.
