Abstract

The xanthate complex Re-I(CO)(4)S2COEt was prepared and characterized by elemental analysis and various spectroscopic methods. The electronic spectrum of this compound shows two long-wavelength absorptions which are assigned to intraligand pi pi* (lambda(max) = 278 nm) and Re(I) --> S2COEt- MLCT (lambda(max) = 327 nm) transitions. The MLCT state is not luminescent but reactive. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A.
