Abstract

Raman spectra of the Ba(O-2)(1-x)O-x and Sr(O-2)(1-x)O-x series were recorded in order to investigate the influence of varying O-O bond lengths on the Raman-active O-O stretching modes in each series, and to obtain additional information on the samples from this. In the barium peroxide series, the O-O stretching mode in the Raman spectra was found to vary between 843 and 853 cm(-1) with a total change in bond length of 2.5 pm, from 149.3 to 146.8 pm. In the strontium peroxide series a wavenumber variation from 865 to 873 cm(-1) was observed with a change in bond length from 148.3 to 145.0 pm, a total change of 3.3 pm.
