Substitution of side groups is suggested as a method to modify and to improve the mechanical properties, mainly the brittleness, of polypyrrole. In this article poly(3,4-dimethoxypyrrole) (poly(DMOP)), a new substituted polypyrrole, is characterized from a physical point of view. The thermal, mechanical and electrical conduction behaviour is described together with some structural findings. This is done by uniaxial continuous deformation (stress-strain, conductivity-strain), thermoelectric and dynamic mechanical measurements.
