Abstract

An 8 ns photoresponse has been obtained from YBa2Cu3O7-d films in the remanent magnetic state following the absorption of short pulses of ultraviolet laser radiation. The results demonstrate the temporal resolution of the motion of vortices thermally activated by laser heating. This effect permits the exploration of vortex dynamics from nanosecond to second time-scales for the first time. (C) 1997 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd.
