The transition from the last Glacial to the Holocene was bound up with several short-term climatic fluctuations, which influenced the sedimentological, geomorphological and pedological processes: during the late-glacial stadials the non-glaciated regions of the highlands once again subjected to periglacial geomorphodynamic. The youngest parts of the multisectional periglacial slope deposits, which occure throughout the low mountain regions, often are dated tephrochronologically in the Younger Dryas and would thereby reflect a considerable morphodynamic during the short late-glacial climatic fluctuations. In the Bayerischer Wald, where no tephra occures, we try to reconstruct the late-glacial geomorphodynamic by radiocarbon-dating of peats, which are stratified with the periglacial slope deposits, by IRSL-dating and in combination with moraines. As a result we found that in the Vorderer Bayerischer Wald the uppermost parts of the periglacial slope deposits (Hauptlagen) probably had formed in the oldest Dryas, whereas the Younger Dryas as time of formation is impossible. In the Hinterer Bayerischer Wald, which represents a differing, independent geomorphological unit, our studies are not yet completed.
