Abstract

The trinuclear compound (NMe(3)Cet)(6){(C5H5)(2)Ti-IV[mu-NCRuII(CN)(5)](2)} (Cet=cetyl) was prepared and characterized. In CHCl3 it shows an intense long-wavelength absorption at lambda(max)=630 nm which is assigned to a Ru(II) to Ti(IV) MMCT transition. The corresponding anions {(C5H5)(2)M(IV)[mu-NCRuII(CN)(5)](2))(6-) with M=Zr and Hf could not be isolated owing to their facile decomposition. They display MMCT absorptions at lambda(max)=420 nm (Zr) and 365 nm (Hf). The complex ((C5H5)(2)Ti-IV[mu-NCRuII(CN)(5)](2)}(6-) underwent a photoredox reaction upon MMCT excitation with phi=0.03 at lambda(irr)=577 nm.
