Abstract

The crystal structures of the high-pressure phases ZnIn2S4-II and MnIn2Se4-II have been refined from X-ray powder data using the Rietveld method. Both high-pressure phases crystallize with the spinel-type structure (cubic, space group Fd (3) over bar m, Z=8). ZnIn2S4-II (a=10.6220(6) Angstrom) is a normal spinel with Zn at the tetrahedral and In at the octahedral sites. The structure was refined to R(p)=3.60%, R(wp) = 4.92% and R(I,hkl)=5.68%. In MnIn2Se4-II (a=11.2177(7) Angstrom), the cations are statistically distributed over the tetrahedral and octahedral sites. The structure refinement converged at R(p)=7.O3%, R(wp)=9.21% and R(I,hkl)=8.82%.
