Abstract

The scheelitetype structure of potassium periodate. KIO4, has been confirmed and refined from single-crystal X-ray data at two temperatures. The compound crystallizes tetragonally, space group I4(1)/a, with a = 5.726(1), c = 12.607(4) A at 297(1) K, and a = 5.704(3), c = 12.478(8) Angstrom at 150(1) K, respectively. Except for a significant decrease in the anisotropic displacement factors, the changes in the structural parameters at low temperature are rather small.
