Abstract

The phase transitions liquid --> solid((beta)) and solid((beta)) --> solid((alpha)) are investigated for pure acetonitrile and acetonitrile solutions of alkaline and alkaline earth metal salts. The solutions of the alkaline earth metal perchlorates show no phase transition solid((beta)) --> solid((alpha)), due to the geometry of the orthorombic unit cell of the solid alpha phase, requiring a coordination number of four upon the included cation.
