Abstract

Today, laser technology is employed in many areas of operative medicine. For the management of anaesthesia, problems are encountered in particular when the laser is rued close to the larynx. For ventilation purposes, continuous ventilation via special laser-resistant endotracheal tubes, intermittent intubation and ventilations, and jet ventilation may all be considered. Laser-related complications and how to avoid them together with the necessary measures to be taken in the event of the ignition of an endotracheal tube are discussed.
