Abstract

An apparatus based on a differential gas-chromatographic detection system was designed in order to obtain information about the average permeation coefficient for pervaporation (PVAP) of pure liquids through isotactic poly(propylene) (i-PP). The non-ideal concentration dependence of diffusivity D prevents one from solving the diffusion equations exactly. Therefore, a method has been developed to obtain information on the intrinsic diffusion coefficient D-0 and the plasticisation parameter gamma for the two-parameter function D(c) used. In addition, the concentration profile of the liquid in the membrane can be evaluated.
