Abstract

A basically new physical model is developed for the mechanism of the plasma focus based on the assumption that the usually neglected space-charge term in Maxwell's equations is dominating due to the double layer of the discharge. The result is then neither an oscillating nor a wave solution but a single high-current pulse which agrees with measurements of focus electron beams.
