Abstract

The luminescence of Pb(OH)3- in deaerated aqueous solution is quenched by hydroxide with k = 1.87 x 10(5) L mol-1 s-1. It is suggested that this quenching is associated with an electron transfer from hydroxide to Pb(OH)3- in its P-3(1) sp- excited state. This assumption is supported by the photochemical behaviour of Pb(OH)3- which is photoreduced to metallic lead. The efficiency of the photolysis increase with hydroxide concentration.
