Abstract

In a prospective study 78 hypertensive patients with suspected coronary artery disease were consecutively diagnosed by cardiac catheterization, renal angiography and color coded duplex scanning. The main renal arteries could be examined sufficiently in 95% of the cases. Different doppler criteria like Pourcelot-index, aliasing-phenomenon of the color coding and the peak systolic velocity (PSV) in the main renal arteries were assessed in their lability to detect renal artery stenosis. PSV turned out to be the moot reliable parameter with a sensitivity of 89% and a specificity of 98%.
