Abstract

The uniformity of the deformation of polymer networks is investigated using theoretical and experimental methods. For the case of polydisperse networks it is shown that the mean local strain of the subchains is always smaller than the macroscopic strain. Transmission electron micrographs illustrate the inhomogeneous nature of the deformation of unfilled crosslinked natural rubber.
