We present symmetry analysis, Raman and Brillouin scattering selection rules and Raman spectra of (GaAs)m/(AlAs)n superlattices grown on GaAs substrates of (211) orientation. Using lattice dynamical calculations based on the shell model, an assignment of the observed confined optical and folded acoustic modes has been performed. The angular dispersion and polarization mixing of the superlattice modes are studied in detail. We demonstrate that the assignment of an effective wave vector q to the confined modes in [211] superlattices is similar to that performed earlier for the [311] case.
