Phenanthro[3,4-c]phenanthrene-5,6-dione, C26H14O2, M(r) = 358.1, monoclinic, P2(1)/c, a = 11.542 (2), b = 11.320 (3), c = 14.083 (2) angstrom, beta = 109.82 (2)-degrees, V = 1731.0 angstrom 3, Z = 4, D(x) = 1.37 Mg m-3, lambda(Mo K-alpha) = 0.71073 angstrom, mu(Mo K-alpha) = 0.08 mm-1, F(000) = 744, T = 297 K, R = 0.108, wR = 0.063 for 1046 reflexions with I > 0.8-sigma(I). The molecule consists of six planar rings of C atoms (maximum deviation 0.15 angstrom). The O atoms lie 0.44 and 0.34 angstrom out of the plane of the ring. The planes of the different rings are inclined at 12 (3)-degrees to each other.
