Abstract

C11H9NO3S, M(r) = 235.26, orthorhombic, Pna2(1), a = 13.156 (1), b = 12.223 (1), c = 6.461 (1) angstrom, V = 1039.0 (3) angstrom 3, D(m) = 1.48, D(x) = 1.50 g cm-3, Z = 4, lambda(Cu K-alpha) = 1.54178 angstrom, mu = 26.6 cm-1, F(000) = 488, T = 297 K, final R = 0.026, wR = 0.029 for 1046 independent reflections. The molecule is made up of two planar fragments: the 1,3-thiazolidine-2,4-dione ring and the methoxybenzylidene moiety with an angle of 5.9 (5)-degrees between them. Bond distances and angles are normal and intermolecular hydrogen bonding occurs between N(3) and the methoxy O(14) from neighbouring molecules in a 'head-to-tail' order [N(3)-H(3)...O(14)' = 2.916 (1) angstrom, N(3)-H(3)-O(14)' = 169.8 (3)-degrees; (') = 0.5 - x, 0.5 + y, 0.5 + z].
