The first 1,3,5-lambda-3-diazaphosphinines 2 were synthesized from 3,5-diazapyrylium tetrafluoroborates 1 by O/P exchange with tris(trimethylsilyl)phosphane. Compounds 2 react with alkyne dienophiles in a reaction cascade to give the highly functionalized lambda-3-phosphinines 3 (Aryl1, Aryl2 = C6H5, 4-C6H4CH3, 4-C6H4Cl; R1, R2 = H, C6H5, SiMe3, CO2Et).
