Placement in accordance with 64 of the German Criminal Code (StGB) is subject to certain special features (manifested in the dual mandate of protection of the general public and treatment of patients), so forensic treatment must proceed in a differentiated manner and align therapeutic concepts with this dual mandate. Two Bavarian hospitals report on their way to offer individualized treatment in this special framework (e. g. substitution). Especially the open attitude towards the patients ' abstinence ideas and their transfer into a forensic aftercare seem to be successful, as the drop- out rates decrease in comparison to previous treatment concepts. Forensic outpatient work can pick up thisthreadand apply a broader methodological spectrum.
