Abstract

Six novel salts of the TCNQ radical anion with various sterically bulky cations, involving polycyclic, nonaromatic, and acyclic cations, were prepared and studied. The influence of sterically bulky cations on packing efficiency is studied, and it is shown that the formation of pancake bonding between TCNQ radicals is not hindered. Different arrays of stacked TCNQ, ranging from 0D (isolated radicals) to 1D (infinite chains) to 2D are described, and their magnetic properties have been studied.
