Following the recapitulation of the tradition-steeped relationship between theory and practice, the contribution focuses on the as yet neglected conditions for the possibility of improving the educational practice through educational-scientific research results. In this context, it is of utmost importance that it is not the authors, but rather the addressees of educational-scientific research results who (must) decide whether and how they are going to put to use in practice heterogeneous quality concepts of researchers differing in their assessments. Practice and policies may - thus the thesis be - changed in a qualified way if the difference between scientific and practical responsibilities grounded on different competences is respected.
